Sarzana: The Fortresses

Stage 24 via Francigena Arrival of pilgrims in Piazza San Giorgio for Francigena stamping. Beginning of the tour of Sarzana, a small town in the heart of the Val di Magra that, since ancient times, has always been a religious, commercial and judicial center of great importance, and of its two Fortresses (Firmafede and Sarzanello) passing through Via Mazzini and Via San Francesco.

Tasting and Experience In agreement with local stakeholders, visitors will be able to enjoy a unique experience, tasting traditional local products thanks to culinary workshops where they will have the opportunity to prepare the famous Ligurian pesto and taste testaroli at the Sarzanello Fortress. At the Firmafede Fortress, visitors will be able to taste wines and oils from local producers. Finally, you can also taste the famous Spongata di Sarzana, a typical dessert made with shortcrust pastry, dried fruit and honey, prepared for the holidays at one of the city's pastry shops.
